Kitchen part 2

On Saturday we went to the Decoglaze showroom to double check our choice of glass splashback. At our colour appointment with Wisdom they suggested ‘Latte’ would go well with our choices of cupboards: Laminex Espresso Ligna silk and polyurethane white satin, against our Caesarstone benchtops of Emperadoro and Oyster. The sample in the Timpelle showroom looked good but I just wanted to make certain.

I’m nervous about all the colours, especially tiling etc because of getting it wrong previously. I chose the tiles in my last kitchen thinking they were a rich cream but in situ they became mushroom. It detracted from the overall look of the kitchen and has bugged me ever since, hence our little road trip.

I’m pleased to say that the latte looks great. The Maltese looked nice as well but then the sales lady said ‘it almost has a mushroom hue in some lights …’ and that was that – Latte it is!

Quite a few people make a bold statement with their glass splashback colour but not us I’m afraid, nice and neutral this time. I did like the one which was wine being sploshed around … you can have any photo put behind the glass.

We have signed off our kitchen plans from Timpelle. Lots and lots of pages but here is a sneak preview:

There will be a join in the cooktop benchtop unfortunately as the bench at 3.1m is longer than the piece of Caesarstone. There are bulkheads over the cupboards and the gaps are for the double oven, microwave and American fridge freezer. The overhead cupboards have been dropped for the vertically challenged – that’s me!

Having lived here as a child in the 60's I fell in love with Australia and always hoped to one day be able to visit again. So when the opportunity came to move here with my husband's job we decided nothing ventured nothing gained and decided to go for it even though it was hard to leave our family and friends behind in the UK. So now we're here lock, stock and barrel, children and pets too and embarking on building a new home.

  1. Your kitchen plan looks great. I’m guessing there’s a good reason that you don’t reduce your bench length 1-2 cm to avoid the join in the Caesarstone??

    • Thanks Johanne, the bench length is 18cm longer so I don’t really want to trim that much off. Hopefully the stonemason will do a good job with the join. I’ve looked at joins in different Builder’s show homes, some are brilliant and some are awful. Here’s hoping ours is great – one slab of beer coming up….

  2. Your kitchen looks fab! Sounds like a custom design? I’m curious how flexible Wisdom Homes are in regards to customizing the kitchen? Did you make a lot of changes from the standard layout?

I’m having sleepless nights over our kitchen/butlers pantry re-design at the moment. I’m so tempted to just forget about making any changes and just stick to the standard as it’s pretty good already. But then again this is supposed to be our dream home with the dream kitchen!

    • Thank you 🙂 the kitchen layout is only a little different from the Wisdom Standard, mainly no slot in cooker but a built in double oven plus additional cupboards behind the sink run. However we have upgraded the finish & the Caesarstone plus put in two more sets of pot drawers. I thought their design was pretty good. We have done a custom design in the Butler’s though as standard is three walls of shelves. I’m pleased as its my design and I can’t wait to see it for real 🙂 so all in all Wisdom were very flexible provided you’re happy to pay for it.
      Good luck with your design!

  3. I really appreciate your work, especially its experienced part that made it easy to understand the whole point. Thanks for sharing such a great post.
