Landscaping Phase Two

So Phase One is 99.9% complete.

The renderers came and did an excellent job on the wall and post box. Then just as they finished it began to rain so they had to scramble to cover everything up. That huge orange tarpaulin from the concreting came in very handy!

We had our quote for Phase Two and that starts this week and then with fingers crossed and a following wind we should have our landscaping finished in a fortnight. I have already been out to look at self propelled key operated petrol mowers for me in anticipation.

However as I think I have only ever mown the lawn once in my life this could prove interesting. I’ve decided that as I am now a lady of leisure I should take over this task from my hubby who is working his socks off. Our 21 year old did do it when we first arrived in Australia but after catching him mowing in thongs I lectured him on safety and the importance of wearing closed shoes against blades, spiders and snakes and he never did it again…

The landscaping being finished also means that I can have a drying area again. So off I went to Masters and came back with an iconic Hills Hoist dryer and it is a monster!

So that’s two Aussie icons a Victa mower and the Hills Hoist. How long until I find my sons eyeing it up for a round of Goon of Fortune?

Goon of Fortune

Speaking of icons we had a short break up to Coffs Harbour last week and came across this Aussie Icon

I’ve added it to my list, so far I’ve seen

Speaking of Goon of Fortune here’s an icon I’d like to visit:

Having lived here as a child in the 60's I fell in love with Australia and always hoped to one day be able to visit again. So when the opportunity came to move here with my husband's job we decided nothing ventured nothing gained and decided to go for it even though it was hard to leave our family and friends behind in the UK. So now we're here lock, stock and barrel, children and pets too and embarking on building a new home.

  1. Hello! We are currently building a McDonald Jones home in Timbarra Avenue and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog! We will finish our build this term, And as such Iam busy getting quotes so we can finish the house after handover. Can I ask who you got to do your landscaping? I have had 2 astronomical quotes!! We are building a single level home on 500 block with a swimming pool out the back- not much landscaping and yet so much money!! Can you please let me know who is doing your landscaping and if you were happy with service and price. Thanks, Sarah

    • Hi Sarah,
I’m glad you like my blog 🙂

So far I am very happy with our landscaper, Instyle Landscaping. They are not cheap but they are doing a very professional job with quality products. They are all very polite and work hard – what more could you ask for 🙂 Well apart from waving a magic wand and completing it in a week!
They have done one other job in Willandra and three in Timbarra that I know of. He doesn’t really advertise because he is kept busy from personal recommendations. They have just started phase two this afternoon and will be here for about two weeks finishing ours and our neighbours.

  2. Hi Lunar
Windy, wet and snowy here in sunny Scotland – yes, all four seasons in one day! Great to see things are moving on apace. Mind and get yourself some steel toed boots/shoes for that self propelled mower. Dainty sized Doc Martens with steel toes are available – and I’m sure other suppliers are available.

So, I’ve checked out the rules for goon of fortune. Is there no hangman game involved like wheel of fortune, or by the time a couple of passes of the goonsack, no-one cares?

As to the biggest thing at the side of the road, Texas has these too, but I have only managed to bag one so far when returning my niece to college from Austin to Huntsville on my last visit – it was a huge teapot btw, but there are guns, buffalo, corncobs etc. I must get bagging some more!

All the best to all xxW
