Majestic 40 at Gardener's Ridge

building a Wisdom Majestic in North Kellyville

Hey ho, hey ho, it’s off to tile we go ….

Wednesday I popped by the site in the hope of catching the tilers at work. I wanted to ask them to leave any left over tiles behind for repairs in case we have any accidents down the line. Turns out they do anyway 🙂

Not one, not two but four tilers hard at work. All the wet area floors were laid and they were about a quarter of the way up the walls. I had a sneak peek in the powder room and was really pleased with what I could see.

They have taken care to match up the floor tile joins with the walls and from what I can tell, before it’s all cleaned up, it looks top notch to me.

There were rather a lot of tiles piled up waiting to be laid. As standard Wisdom include:

  • Full height tiling to two walls only of Bathroom and Ensuite (main visible walls)
  • Decorative tiled shower niches to all shower recesses

We’ve gone for full height tiling throughout hence the small mountain of tiles. Less painting in years to come and more protection from any Moby Dick’s splashing around!

I decided to go pretty neutral in the bathrooms and add ‘pops’ of colour with towels and a few accent pieces. Wisdom include a small amount of accent tiling with most people choosing to tile the niches or put a vertical strip on the wall of the shower. I’ve gone for a horizontal strip below the mirror on the vanities instead.

We’ve chosen from the standard tile range throughout except for the accent tile in the powder and ensuite. There we went for a real marble mosaic that was later discontinued. We reselected a marble ‘finger’ instead so I was a bit worried to see a sheet of diamonds waiting to be laid.

At least they hadn’t been put up yet! I beetled back to Di Lorenzo and checked the codes on the signed paperwork against the showroom tile book and they were correct – phew! Just a miss pick which will hopefully get sorted quickly.

Friday the site supervisor kindly let me into the house to measure up with the curtain company. No tilers present so I was able to have a good look at the tiling without disturbing them. Really, really pleased 🙂

OK less talk more photos!

It was a bit of an overcast day so the lighting isn’t too fantastic in these photos.

Laundry: Shades of grey 🙂 note the tiled waste in the LHS corner, harder for the creepy crawlies to come visit!

Having lived here as a child in the 60's I fell in love with Australia and always hoped to one day be able to visit again. So when the opportunity came to move here with my husband's job we decided nothing ventured nothing gained and decided to go for it even though it was hard to leave our family and friends behind in the UK. So now we're here lock, stock and barrel, children and pets too and embarking on building a new home.

  1. All sounding and looking very positive Lunar.

  2. The tiles are looking great, I’ve always loved the creamy marble tile effect. Lovely.

  3. House is coming together beautifully! Love the tiles and vanities. How exciting is this stage? Not long to go Dea😄

    • Sheilzy :)!
Just yesterday I was thinking of you and hoping you were enjoying your beautiful new home. Howzabout an update as to what it is like post completion and an insight into your landscaping?
I’m enjoying this stage and watching it all come together – hopefully! I can relax once I see if my two benchtop colours go…..

      • What landscaping!!!! Our landscaper had a family emergency which meant delay. He hasn’t committed to a start date and I’m stressing and frustrated👿 But good news is the interior is close to being finished and we are loving living in the house. Will share pics soon😄

      • Sorry to hear about the landscaping but I look forward to seeing your interior photos soon 🙂

  4. Hi lunar, been following your blog, I’m also building. Wisdom Homes Manhattan. Just wondering what happened to your Ensuite WC cornice did they remove it for full tiling yet? They have not started on our tiling but on our powder room we also upgraded to full height tiling but there is coving on the ceiling.

    • Hi Elo,
We really liked the Manhattan design as well.

The coving hasn’t been removed yet but I had a call from the tiling supervisor and our tilers will be back on Thursday to finish the wet rooms. Shame it’s not Tuesday after the holiday but I’d rather have the wait and get the same crew back because they are doing such a great job.

      Good luck with your build!

      • Thanks for the quick reply. It’s a shame they have to do things twice…why would they put the cornice anyway knowing it’s a full height ceiling in the first place. So you get a separate tiling supervisor as well? Separate from the building supervisor? We are building in Kellyville and our supervisor is NS, who is yours? Also on your blog you mentioned Wisdom organised a meeting with you on site to discuss the tiling layout before they start…I thought this is a good idea, was this organised by the tile supervisor or building supervisor? Thanks

      • No, unfortunately, you don’t get a pre-tiling meeting on site to check tiles and discuss layout. Some builders do this but Wisdom don’t, I did ask if we could have one and was told it wasn’t needed since what was on your signed Di Lorenzo paperwork was what would be delivered. Shame we didn’t have one because it would have highlighted both issues beforehand for us, the wrong accent tile and the WC coving.
At least I noticed they were about to use the wrong accent tile before it was laid. I phoned the Di Lorenzo showroom to speak to the person who dealt with us at the tile selection meeting and was told it was now a Head Office issue and to go through our SS who would deal with the Di Lorenzo tiling supervisor for us. I was also told that whatever was on our agreed signed paperwork was what would be used. I did then go and double check our paperwork against the showroom tiles and they did agree. Whew! Turns out it was an error on Di Lorenzo’s computer inventory. The correctly coded label was put on the wrong box of tiles. So they picked the right box it just had the wrong contents.
The Di L tiling supervisor called me to explain what had happened and to check the layout we wanted then offered to meet us on site to check we were happy with it.
It was just one of those blips that happen during a build but they’re doing their best to put it right.
Our Wisdom SS is SK and he is really great, very professional, good communication and does what he says he will do. We have had some highs and lows during our building journey from Admin thru to construction, I wish they’d all been like him 🙂
