Last week I spent a nice few days down in Melbourne as hubby was presenting at a conference there. He was working hard but I had a great time exploring. The weather was pretty good too, a mix of sunshine and showers as we head into Spring.

I spent a great few hours looking at curtain fabrics in Warwick’s showroom and came away with plenty of swatches.

I was also persuaded to take a trip up to the Skydeck in the Eureka Tower. Great views if you have the stomach for them which unfortunately I don’t. Considering I don’t like even going up a ladder I’m not quite sure why I agreed to go. I was OK if I was sitting down but felt sure I could feel it swaying (that might have been the vertigo!) I lasted until a little girl thumped the glass and leant backwards against it then I was a wuss and had to go back down 88 floors to terra firma.

Meanwhile back at the block they were busy beavering away. Finally, finally, finally the lower eaves were completed 🙂

Last week saw the commencement of gyprocking and today we got to see all their hard work. Looking great!

Yesterday we received the progress payment claim for commencement of internal linings.

Next week is full on with the internal doors and frames, staircase, garage door and water proofing. Then I believe we will be at lock up which is normally 10 weeks prior to completion 🙂 ! With that in mind I have arranged a kerbside collection with the local council to pick up the first batch of rubbish we have managed to cull from our rental.

Having lived here as a child in the 60's I fell in love with Australia and always hoped to one day be able to visit again. So when the opportunity came to move here with my husband's job we decided nothing ventured nothing gained and decided to go for it even though it was hard to leave our family and friends behind in the UK. So now we're here lock, stock and barrel, children and pets too and embarking on building a new home.

  1. Love Melbourne, gorgeous city.
Wow your build is progressing nicely! I wonder what all the yellow stuff is?

    • Thanks trixee, I hope the pace keeps up.
I don’t know what the yellow marks are either but I hope they paint over well as we have chosen a light wall colour!

  2. Another Melbourne lover here. I look forward to seeing what you chose for your curtains. Great progress on your house and the week ahead sounds great. I get so excited when there are more than one set of tradies on site. Closer to the end!

    • I’m tending towards a more conservative curtain as I went a bit OTT in our last lounge…
I’d love to make my own colour scheme in the Flowering Gum by Ink & Spindle which I discovered courtesy of you but it would cost a small fortune with the size of the windows we have.

      • Ha ha. If Ink and Spindle curtains are conservative for you, I’d love to see what your version of OTT is!! Warwick fabrics are beautiful too. I’m going for plain linen for curtains, just not sure about the source yet.

      • Ha ha … no I will be going neutral-ish. Let’s just say my OTT curtains involved pelmets, swag and tails and lots of stripes.
Plain linen is lovely and so are the sheers that are so popular. No sheers for us as they wouldn’t last two minutes with my two cats.

  3. Another Melbourne lover here. What a coincidence my hubby was also down there for a conference last week. Was your hubby on a medical conference?
House is looking fantastic Dee. You’ll be moved in before you know it😄

    • Good to hear from you Sheilzy! I hope you are enjoying settling into your lovely new home.
Hubby is computing not medicine. Pity he’s not a dentist after what my crown cost this week 🙂
I have my fingers crossed that we will be in end of November but hopefully before Christmas.

      • I still can’t believe we’re in! We love living in the new house, sounds cliche but it feels like home😄 I have my fingers crossed for handover by end of November. I reckon they will be busting their guts off to get you in before the Xmas shutdown.
